Our First Sustainability Baseline Report

Sue-Jane|Apr 21, 2025

Here at Castlery, we are committed to sustainability on a holistic level. We’re on a journey of continuous improvement, and our goal is simple: to be sustainable in ways that actually matter.

That’s why we’re proud to introduce our very first Sustainability Report. It’s not just a snapshot of where we are — it’s a play-by-play of what we’re doing, what we’re fixing, and what’s coming in the next 5 years.

Why we’re talking about sustainability (and why it matters)

We’re designing furniture that’s made to last, packaging it more thoughtfully, and sourcing materials with care. Because if we want homes that feel good, they should do good too.

So, what are we doing to make a difference?

The first step: Our sustainability page & report

Our first Sustainability Report and page is the start of something bigger. We’re sharing this openly because sustainability should be transparent, not just a marketing claim

It’s about accountability, and we want you to be part of this journey.

What we mean when we say ‘sustainably-made’ furniture

Making sustainable furniture goes way beyond using “eco-friendly” labels. It’s about traceability, materials, and human impact. Here’s what we’re doing on that front:

OEKO-TEX® certified fabrics

We believe comfort should never compromise safety, which is why over 600 of our upholstery items are made using OEKO-TEX® certified fabrics.

The OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is one of the world’s best-known labels for textile safety. It ensures that every component of the textile — from yarn to finished product — has been tested for harmful substances and meets strict global safety standards.

This certification guarantees that allergic dyes, heavy metals, and other restricted chemicals are either absent or present only in trace amounts below regulatory thresholds.

With OEKO-TEX® certified fabrics, you’re not just choosing soft and stylish textiles — you’re choosing a healthier home.

The GoodWeave® difference

A beautiful rug should feel good underfoot — and even better in your heart. That’s why we partner with GoodWeave®, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending child labor in the rug industry.

When you see the GoodWeave® label, you can trust that it stands for fair wages and ethical working conditions.

This is about setting a higher standard and sticking to it.

Responsible timber-sourcing

Timber is a big part of our designs — and we don’t take that lightly. For every piece of wood we use, we implement a responsible sourcing protocol that guarantees both sustainability and legal compliance.

All our wood-based materials, whether solid wood, veneer, or engineered boards, must be traceable to recognized legal sources.

These materials comply with both local and international regulations, including CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and strict forest management standards in our operating markets.

By holding ourselves and our partners accountable, we’re making sure that the furniture you bring home isn’t just beautiful.

No shortcuts. Just responsible sourcing backed by action.

Formaldehyde-safe furniture

Sustainability isn’t just about protecting the planet — it’s about creating a safer home for you, too.

Formaldehyde is commonly found in adhesives and finishes used in furniture manufacturing, but exposure to high levels indoors can negatively affect air quality and health.

That’s why we ensure all our furniture meets strict formaldehyde safety standards, reducing indoor air pollution and creating a healthier living space.

So whether you're lounging on the sofa or tucking into bed, you can feel good knowing your furniture is designed with both comfort and your well-being in mind.

Building furniture for real life

Furniture should last because real life is messy, and your furniture should be able to handle it.

Spills, pets, and the occasional rogue crayon happen, and our furniture is designed to adapt. Over 60 of our products already feature removable covers and modular designs — with more on the way.

By creating furniture that’s built to last, we help reduce waste and make sustainability a seamless part of your home.

When you choose Castlery, you’re not just getting stylish furniture — you’re getting pieces that are designed with sustainability, durability, and quality in mind.

The road ahead: What’s next for Castlery’s sustainability journey?

Sustainability is a journey, not a destination. Our Sustainability Report is just the beginning, and we’re committed to continuous improvement.

From further reducing emissions to introducing more sustainable materials, we’ll keep pushing forward — because good design should be good for the planet, too.
