How to Choose a TV Stand

Castlery|Feb 22, 2024

If you’re looking for ways to create a focal point in your living room and liven up your interior décor, a TV stand is the perfect choice. As well as supporting your screen, TV stands and consoles can provide valuable extra storage and help to enhance and emphasise your interior design theme.

Even if you have a wall mounted screen – or no screen at all – you can use a TV stand to display lamps, plants, photos, and ornaments to create a fantastic feature in your living space.

With so many beautiful options to choose from, narrowing it down to your favourite isn’t always easy. So, we’ve put together a few top tips and ideas to help you find the perfect stand for your home.

Size it up

Arguably, the most important thing to consider when investing in a new TV stand is size. After all, if your new TV stand is too big for your lounge, or if it’s dwarfed by your screen, it’s unlikely to look good and you’ll struggle to achieve an interior look you’re happy with. So, before you start searching for a new TV stand, you need to break out the measuring tape.

There are a few different measurements you’ll need to take before you can find the perfect stand for your interior. Firstly, you’ll need to measure the width of the wall where your TV stand is going to sit. If you have built-in furnishings, or alcoves either side or your chosen spot, make sure you take these into account when measuring the space available.

It’s also a good idea to measure the distance from the wall to your sofa or coffee table. You’ll want to leave enough room for people to easily walk between the screen and your seating area, so if there’s limited space available, you may need to choose a slimline stand.

Last, but not least, you’ll need to measure your TV. Ideally, your console should be 10-15cm wider than your screen to maximise support and ensure your living area feels balanced and well-proportioned. If you’re still not sure which TV stand will work best with your screen, we can help. You’ll find illustrations of recommended TV sizes to fit each console on our individual product pages. Storage, storage, storage

As well as giving you the perfect place to perch your TV, a new console will allow you to add valuable extra storage to your living space. To make the most of this storage, think about how many electronics and gadgets you own and how much space you need to comfortably store them.

It’s also important to consider the type of storage you’ll require. If you have devices like speakers and DVD players, you’ll probably want to place them on open shelves in the console so that they’re easily accessible and able to perform to the best of their abilities. Other electronics like digiboxes and Wi-Fi routers can be hidden away in cupboards or drawers to give your home a clean, uncluttered feel.

Keep it on trend

Your TV console will be one of the main focal points of your living room, so it’s important to get it to look just right. TV stands come in a good variety of styles, so it should be easy to find one that suits your interior design theme.

If your living area already has a mid century style, or if you want to add a retro feel to your interior, our Seb TV stand is a great choice. Its angled wooden legs and wood finish give it a distinctly vintage feel, while its mix of cupboards, drawers and open shelves make it suitable for storing all types of devices.

Another mid-century-inspired option is the Harper TV stand. Its rounded ends and elegant metal feet give the furnish a contemporary feel. While on the inside, the piece offers ample storage for electronics, books, DVDs and anything else you want to keep out of sight.

If you’ve gone for a more industrial look in your living area, the Carson TV stand will look great with your existing décor. Though it still has a mid-century feel, this attractive TV stand’s angular silhouette and metallic elements give it a clean, engineered aesthetic.

Designed with Carrara marble and a timber slatted frame, the August TV Stand is a timeless mid-century modern design.

Both industrial and mid-century TV stands will work in contemporary interiors. However, if you really want to emphasise your modern look, opt for an August TV stand. The console has sharp corners, a striped wooden facade, and a luxurious marble top. Simple black metal legs support the unit, giving it a crisp, stylish appearance and ensuring it feels light and airy.

Adding a TV stand to your interior layout is a great way to introduce style and character to your living area. Whether you’ve chosen a modern, retro, or industrial look, these versatile furnishings will enhance your décor and add practicality to your lounge. Explore our collection today to find out more.
